Yu Nitahara is the winner of the first and orchestra prizes as well as the audience award at Morocco Philharmonic Orchestra International Music Competition. He is also a prizewinner of other international competitions such as Mozart Competition in Salzburg (third prize) and Johann Nepomuk Hummel Competition (first prize). As a chamber musician, he received the first prize at the Swedish International Duo Competition, the best accompanist prizes in violin and cello section at the Enescu International Competition. He has made appearances in European festivals such as Gstaad Menuhin Festival, Schleswig Holstein Festival and also in halls like the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Grosser Saal in Salzburg. He has appeared as a soloist with Morocco Philharmonic Orchestra, Slovakia Philharmonic Orchestra, Gstaad Menuhin Festival Orchestra and Salzburg Orchestra Soloists among others. Yu studied at Tokyo National University of the Arts both his undergraduate and master’s degrees with Michiko Kasuya-Ohno and Akira Eguchi which concluded with top honours. Upon graduation, he moved to Europe to study piano solo and chamber music at University Mozarteum Salzburg under Pavel Gililov.
