MIGUEL ÁNGEL GÓMEZ MARTÍNEZ

Born in Granada (Spain), he conducts his first concert at the age of seven. He began studying piano, violin and composition in his hometown, continuing at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid, where he received the Prize for Piano Composition and Virtuosity, obtaining several international scholarships and culminating his career at the Superior School of Music of Vienna receiving Honors in Orchestra Direction, as the Extraordinary Prize of the Ministry of Education and Science of Austria, like outstanding student of Hans Swarowsky.

He is regularly invited by the most important Opera Theaters: Berlin, Vienna, Hamburg, Munich, Covent Garden, Paris, Geneva, Houston, Chicago, Florence, La Fenice, San Carlo in Naples, Massimo in Palermo, etc. He has conducted concerts with major orchestras such as Gewandhaus Leipzig, Staatskapelle Dresden, Berlin Radio, Bavarian Radio Munich, WDR Cologne, Bamberg, Vienna Philharmonic and Symphony, Oslo, Suisse Romande, Helsinki, Houston, Denver, Yomiuri Nippon, Tokyo And the main Spanish orchestras. Participates in the Festivals of Berlin, Vienna, Munich, Macerata, Aix-en-Provence, Orange, Granada, Santander, Warsaw, Enescu, San Sebastian, Helsinki, Savonlinna, Salzburg...

He has served as Principal Conductor and Artistic director of the Symphony Orchestra of Spanish Radiotelevision, the La Zarzuela Spanish Nationl Lyric Theater, Mannheim National Opera, the Helsinki National Opera, the Euskadi Symphony Orchestra, the Bayreuth International Junge Orchesterakademie, the Valencia Orchestra, Bern Opera and Hamburg Symphony Orchestra of which he is Director of Honor in perpetuity.

He has composed the Burlesque Suite, Symphony No. 1 (Discovery), Five songs about poems by Alonso Gamo, Symphony No. 2 (Water), Cycle of Songs Letters of a Lover, Spanish Requiem, Piano Concerto, Violin Concerto, the opera Atallah, Don Juan Tenorio, among other diverse works for piano and different chamber music ensembles. He has recorded with notorious record labels such as Decca, Orfeo, RCA, Bongiovanni, Hispavox, Claves, Teldec, Naxos, Philips, Ondine, etc.

He has been presented with the Golden Medal of the City of Granada and the distinction of Grenadine of the 20th Century; he has also received the Medal of Honor from Bonn, Savonlinna, Madrid, Munich, Bavaria, Hamburg, Morges, Bern, and Mannheim and Houston. Maestro Gómez Martínez is also a Member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts as well as Honorary Member of numerous international musical organizations and distinguished by UNESCO. King Juan Carlos I granted him the Order of Civil Merit.
