Saturday, July 28, 2012. This phase will take place between July 29 and August 1. Each participant will perform a piano recital and a quintet for piano and strings
Piano Recital
Each pianist will present a programme which should be of no more than 60 minutes duration, and should consist of pieces of the pianist’s choice. The pianist may not repeat pieces which were performed in either the pre-selection phase or the first phase, and must select pieces which have been published by a recognised publishing house of international scope with the exception of any pieces which may have been composed by the participant himself. The repertoire should reflect the artistic criteria of the pianist, and should comprise key pieces which are representative of the classical, romantic and modern periods.
One of the following must also be included: Isaac Albéniz: one of the works from Iberia, but not “Evocación”; Enrique Granados: “Los Requiebros,” “Coloquio en la Reja,” “El Fandango del Candil,” “Quejas, o la Maja y el Ruiseñor,” “El Pelele,” and “El Amor y la Muerte” from Goyescas; or Manuel de Falla: “Fantasía Bética”.
Chamber Music
Each pianist will play a quintet for piano and strings and will select one of the following: Robert Schumann, Piano Quintet in E flat major, Op. 44; Johannes Brahms, Piano Quintet in F minor, Op. 34; Cesar Franck, Piano Quintet in F minor; Antonin Dvorák, Piano Quintet in A major, Op. 81; and Dimitri Shostakovich, Piano Quintet in G minor, Op. 57.
After these recitals have taken place, the jury will select the 6 semi-finalists.
