Chinese composer born in 1942, Mr. Liqing is professor and president of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Board Director of China Musicians' Association, vice-chairman of the Shanghai Musicians' Association.
In 1980 Yang became the first Chinese composer and pianist to be sent abroad for study after the Cultural Revolution and gained his diplomas for composition and piano in the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover.
Mr. Yang Liqing won the scholarship of DAAD, Germany in 1990, the grants from ACC, USA, and from CSCC, USA in 1995 and has been awarded in several composition competitions. His works are frequently performed in China, Germany, England, France, Italy, United States, Mexico and Japan.
He taught at Salzburg's Mozarteum as a guest professor in 1990 and got a fellowship from Cornell University in 1995.
Since 2000 Mr. Yang has been president of the Shanghai International Piano Competition and has been jury of many international music contests in USA, France, Italy, Japan, Korea, Singopore, among others.
In 2006 he won the title of Honorary Fellow from Performing Arts Academy of Hong Kong.
