Alexander Kandelaki

He was born in Tbilisi (Georgia) in 1972. He studied at the Vano Sarajishvili State Conservatory in Tbilisi, graduating with Honors under the guidance of Professors Temur Matureli, Rusudan Khodjava, and Nino Kereselidze, all of them former students of Heinrich Neuhaus and Alexander Goldenweiser. From 1995 to 1998, he received a scholarship by the Albeniz Foundation to further his training at the Reina Sofía School of Music with Professors Dmtri Bashkirov, Galina Eguiazarova, and Márta Gulyás. There, he also attended master classes from Menahem Pressler and Vitali Margulis.
He has offered recitals, both as a soloist and with different chamber music ensembles, in the Rafael Orozco International Piano Competition in Cordoba, Iberian Festival of Music in Badajoz, and “Las Noches del Real Sitio” International Music Festival in Segovia, among others. He has also performed several times at the Juan March Foundation in Madrid, being live broadcast for RTVE. Since 1998, he teachers piano at the Music Conservatory of Badajoz, in the position which was previously occupied by the great Spanish pianist Esteban Sánchez. Additionally, he teaches the Master in Soloist Performance at the Katarina Gurska Centre, and he frequently offers master classes in conservatories and universities all throughout Spain. He is steadily becoming one of the most prestigious maestros of the country, and this is reflected in the fact that most of his students are accepted to continue their studies at institutions such as the Juilliard School in New York, the Royal Academy in London, Hochschule für Musik Hannover, Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, and the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, among many others. In 2012, he was invited to give master classes at the Hochschule für Musik in Hannover, and since 2016, he is a member of the International Summer Academy of the Collegium Musicum in Pommersfelden (Germany).
